Augmented reality-based remote maintenance for shipboard equipment: a comprehensive framework
This paper presents an AR-based framework for remote maintenance of shipboard equipment, combining AR technology, fault diagnosis, spatial awareness, and real-time collaboration to optimize maintenance tasks in complex maritime environments. The system utilizes holographic projections for immersive guidance, multi-sensor fusion for spatial awareness, and expert collaboration to support efficient maintenance operations. The architecture is modular, comprising a maintenance case library, diagnostic tools, and interactive guidance features. Using advanced techniques such as Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), the system ensures precise spatial positioning. Multi-modal input methods (voice and gesture) enable seamless technician interaction with the system. By integrating fault diagnosis and repair strategy matching, the framework improves maintenance workflows and reduces equipment downtime, significantly enhancing operational readiness and maintenance efficiency.
