Design of a dual-PWM modulated DC-DC converter applicable to aerospace laser diode driving systems

This paper proposes a dual-PWM modulated DC-DC converter for aerospace laser diode driving systems. The DC-DC converter adopts the flyback topology with an Input-Parallel Output-Series (IPOS) structure to achieve the high output voltage required by laser diode. After analyzing the operating principle of the converter, the key parameter design is detailed and the dual PWM controller is established in this paper. The dual PWM controller comprises an inner PWM controller for maintaining high-precision output voltage and an outer one for adjusting output voltage in a wide range to meet laser diode driving requirements at different life stages. The dual PWM controller can be implemented entirely by using analog chips. In combination with the IPOS structure, which features a small number of associated components, the converter proposed in this paper is easy to implement and highly reliable, making it particularly suitable for high-reliability application scenarios such as aerospace. The test results obtained from the engineering prototype have verified the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed dual-PWM modulated DC-DC Converter.
