Research on Glucose Biosensors Based on Au Nanoparticles Modified Copper Oxide Nanowires

In this study, a non-enzymatic glucose sensor was developed by modifying copper oxide nanowires (CuO NWs) with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and integrating them with an extended gate field-effect transistor (EGFET) platform. AuNPs were synthesized via the chemical reduction of hydrogen tetrachloroaurate (III) (HAuCl<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">₄</inf>) with trisodium citrate in deionized water, followed by multiple centrifugation purification steps. The sensing film was fabricated using a hydrothermal method, wherein CuO NWs were immersed in AuNPs solution and subsequently thermally annealed. The sensor was completed after wiring and encapsulation with epoxy resin. Performance evaluation demonstrated excellent sensitivity and linear response characteristics. This novel approach provides a promising alternative to traditional enzyme-based glucose sensors, which, despite their high selectivity, are susceptible to environmental conditions, exhibit enzyme activity degradation over time, and are relatively expensive. The developed sensor offers potential advantages in terms of high sensitivity, low cost, and enhanced stability for non-enzymatic glucose detection applications.
