Symbol Error Rate Analysis of Switched Phase-array Modulation for Secure Millimeter-wave Wireless communications
Symbol error rate (SER) is an important indicator for analyzing secure performance in physical layer security (PLS). However, in the present studies, the SER formula is mainly given in the positive received signal while for the negative received signal phase is rarely mentioned. In order to complement the SER calculation theory for secure communications, we analyze the antenna subset modulation (ASM) theory of millimeter switched phase-array. The dependent but identically distributed Bernoulli random variable model is used to control the switching on and off of switched phase array, and the mathematical statistical characteristics and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) formula are derived after the beam sidelobes are randomized. Further, we give the whole SER calculation theorem and the SER boundary formula in the high SNR regime of quadrature phased shift keying. The correctness of the proposed theory is verified with simulation.
