Evaluating the Influence of Nonlinearity Constraints on Hydrothermal Power System Performance

This paper initiates the honey badger algorithm (HBA) tuned proportional-integral-derivative (PID) to serve as the regulator for load frequency control (LFC). The performance of HBA-aided PID is tested on the dual-area nonlinear hydrothermal power system (DANHTPS) for the disturbance of 10% step load (SLD). However, the efficacy of HBA is validated with the other newly established optimization techniques in the literature. Moreover, the investigation is carried out to demonstrate the effect of non-linearity constraints on the performance of DANHTPS. The investigation is done in the simulation domain, and the simulation analysis revealed the predominance of nonlinearity's in system behavior. Further, the DANHTPS is integrated with the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) line to facilitate the allowable power transfer between the control regions. The obtained results confirmed the improvement in DANHTPS performance with the HVDC line incorporation.
