IoT-Based Waste Management System

Given the current situation, it has been seen on multiple occasions that the trash cans or dustbins positioned in urban public areas are overflowing due to the daily rise in waste production. It is suggested to construct an Internet of Things (IoT)-based waste management system to prevent this problem because the overflowing trash is unsanitary for those who walk by and emits a bad odour that can spread some fatal diseases. The suggested model consists of several dustbins positioned across the city or on campus, each equipped with an embedded technology that will track the amount of trash. The authorised workers will receive an SMS with the bin's position as soon as the garbage level surpasses the 100 cm barrier. Each trashcan will have a unique identifying number that will be included in the SMS. Since live data is uploaded on the IoT platform every minute, authorised workers can view the garbage level information from their location over the internet. By carrying out this project, the rubbish container won't overflow in a public location, which could cause a number of health problems.

Abstract

The authorised workers will receive an SMS with the bin's position as soon as the garbage level surpasses the 100 cm barrier. Each trashcan will have a unique identifying number that will be included in the SMS. Since live data is uploaded on the IoT platform every minute, authorised workers can view the garbage level information from their location over the internet. By carrying out this project, the rubbish container won't overflow in a public location, which could cause a number of health problems.
