Performance Evaluation of Mechanical and Electrical Hydro Governing Systems on Dynamical Stability of Hydrothermal Power System Network

In this work, comparative performance assessments of hydro-governing mechanisms are evaluated to demonstrate the best suitable structure in attaining optimal performance. For this, the two-area hydrothermal (HT) interconnected power system (IPS) (HTIPS) is considered, and the separate investigations are performed by considering the electrical and mechanical hydro-governing structures. The study is carried out on the two-area HTPS for 10 % step load perturbation (SLP) and under the control of the water cycle algorithm (WCA) aided fuzzy proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller. Nonetheless, additional methods in the literature validate the performance domination of the used control strategy. The simulated domain is used to conduct the research, and the simulation results revealed the dominance of the electrical hydro governor over the mechanical structure in obtaining the optimal dynamical stability of the two-area HTIPS.
