Role of Changeover Switches in Islanded PV Systems in EV Charging Systems
The demand for a sustainable transportation system has been accompanied by the necessity for efficient electric vehicle charging systems. This paper considers the integration of changeover switches in islanded photovoltaic systems and how it makes them indispensable in the pursuit of enhanced performance and reliability of EV charging systems. Islanded PV systems make it possible to have local power generation, especially where power distribution infrastructure is relatively far away; however, managing the flow of energy and sustaining system stability remains a great challenge. Changeover switches ensure an easy change between two sources of power without disrupting the flow of electricity for EV charging. In this re- search, different changeover switch configurations in islanded PV systems are investigated, which affects charging efficiency, system resilience, and energy management. We show through simulations and experiments the optimized integration of changeover switches to be relieving power fluctuations and systems outages that will go in support of a strong electrical vehicle charging infrastructure. Therefore, our results give substantial evidence for this kind of technology as it meets future demands on the needs for EVs and also the promotion of sustainable mobility through the reduction of harmful CO2 emissions in the environment.
