Background: MicroRNA's (miRNA's) are minute, non-coding RNA's which plays a vital role in various physiological and pathological processes of coronary artery disease (CAD).Single nucleotide polymorphism may change various functions of miRNA's like expression, methylation etc. and hence may be used as a diagnostic tool in disease progression.Hence we aimed to evaluate the association of few miRNA with CAD.Material and methods: Genotyping for hundred patients and equal number of controls was done by Polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism and miRNA profiling was done by quantitative real time PCR (RT-PCR) for miRNA-146a G>C (rs 2910164) and miRNA-499 A>G (rs 3746444).Results: Both the miRNA related polymorphisms were found to be strongly associated with CAD patients when compared to controls.Expression of miRNA-146a and miRNA-499 increased by 3.0 folds and 3.5 folds in CAD patients than in control. Conclusion: Our results suggest a significant association of miRNA-146a G>C (rs 2910164) and miRNA-499 A>G (rs 3746444) and might be potential biomarkers for the clinical prognosis of CAD but require further validation in a large cohort.
