Research on Enhancing the Time Synchronization Accuracy of IEEE 1588 Based on Asymmetric Delay Prediction

The IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) enables nanosecond-level time synchronization, which meets the high-precision time synchronization requirements of distributed systems. This paper first analyzes the principles of PTP time synchronization and the factors affecting its precision, including hardware and network conditions. Then the related researches are reviewed, such as improving clock source accuracy, optimizing clock control algorithms, and protocol enhancements, while pointing out their limitations. This paper introduces a method that predicts the delay time of PTP message in switches using real-time traffic data to dynamically adjust master-slave clock synchronization, enhancing precision without major hardware changes. By comparing the synchronization errors of traditional PTP methods with those of the proposed method, the effectiveness of the new approach is verified.
