The Ways We Pay Attention

Abstract: This essay brings the intellectual history of curiosity into current debates about critique and postcritique. I argue that these methodological debates founder on issues of attention, and can productively be understood via persistent features in the ways we as critics, scholars, students, and readers pay attention, taking curiosity as an apt concept to discuss such features.
