Engineering and Human-related parameters that affect (dis) comfort perception in Autonomous Vehicles
What's going on in the world of Car design and manufacture?Ten years ago, Auto-makers and Car-Designer were mainly focused on sustainability, fuel consumption, CO2 production and other stuff related to the Car Lifecycle Management in order to create products that were more innovative, more sustainable and more comfortable. The advent of low-cost and very high reliable AI tools and the miniaturization of sensors and CPU had a disruptive effect on the Automotive markets.Together with the countries' legislations (especially in Europe) that constrain Auto-makers to produce cars with the lower (close to zero) CO2 impact, the advent and the spread of new propulsion technologies (electric-based) and new management logics (AI-based) just drive the car-designers to develop new design methods for inventing and integrating new features in cars that can be "driven" by every kind of people.Automated cars, especially level-5 ones, require a completely different interaction approach between the car and the user, and this new way to interact asks for new studies and new challenges to face.In this context, University of Salerno' research group is working on two specifically themes:1.Engineering and Human-related parameters that affect (dis)comfort perception in Autonomous Vehicles. With the advent of Autonomous Vehicles one of the issues regards the comprehension of the changes of (dis)comfort definition for users inside the AVs.In scientific literatures several (dis)comfort models in the Human Machine Interface have been presented The studies that the Prof. Naddeo's research group is performing at University of Salerno is mainly focused on the change of the "model of perception" of the interaction (Cappetti et al., 2017); that is needed because the ways to interact inside the autonomous vehicles are changing. These studies go through the multidisciplinary and multi-targeted issues that can be recognized inside this very wide design-problem and take into account all the inclusive aspects that have been declared in design-for-all principles.New pathways and
