Automated phytoplankton growth system for estimating carbon dioxide absorption potential
The rapid growth of urbanisation and industrialisation results in an increase in atmospheric CO2 levels, which further enhances the climate change globally. This work proposes an innovative alternative to carbon sequestration by installing automated phytoplankton cultivation systems. In this work, to monitor the environmental condition and optimise the growth of phytoplankton, microcontrollers, ESP32 are used. We aim to develop improvements in the quality of air and lesser the levels of CO2 in the urban settings. The work integrates several sensors to read and estimate temperature, turbidity, pH and TDS levels and changes the conditions to maximise the proliferation of phytoplankton in real-time. It utilises a water cleaning pump with an automated relay for constant water quality with advantages like being scalable, low-maintenance, and cost effective. This research work will prove to be effective, with an appropriate production of successful phytoplankton growth, enhanced carbon capture, and a cleaner environment.
