Digital Transformation and Value Creation in Healthcare: A Sectoral Study of Pharmaceuticals in Rural India
This study is an attempt to question the effect of digital transformation on value creation in the pharmaceutical sector of rural India, looking specifically at South Bihar. Even as technology and digital integration increase in healthcare systems overall, there are obstacles unique to rural areas including infrastructure, digital literacy, and institutional readiness. Using a mixed-method design, the study will examine the extent to which public and private efforts to implement digital health initiatives such as ABDM, eSanjeevani and tele-medicine platforms contribute to access to medical technologies, stakeholder satisfaction, and co-creation and engagement. Quantitative data collected from 250 respondants, supplemented with qualitative interviews with 30 key informants, to examine platform effectiveness and obstacles. Results suggest that, although private platforms present more perceived value creation, digital adoption does not have a direct effect on user satisfaction. The findings highlight the importance of user-centered design solutions, enabling digital policies, and robust public-private partnership building to addressing the gaps in healthcare delivery in low-resource areas
