A study on the impact of port automation trends on the labour force at Haiphong seaports

This study aims to evaluate the impact of port automation on the workforce at seaports in the Hai Phong region, with a particular focus on the challenges and opportunities facing port workers amid the trend of future automation. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining online surveys and in-depth interviews with port workers at selected terminals in the Hai Phong area. The study reveals that automation not only enhances operational efficiency but also contributes to a safer working environment for port workers. However, the demands of port automation and digital transformation require workers to improve their digital skills. In addition, training programs at ports need to incorporate courses focused on developing new skills. Furthermore, seaports should consider proposing solutions such as establishing digital competency frameworks and restructuring internal training programs to strengthen the capacity of the port workforce
