Study of The Influence of Shock Waves on Gas Ionisation in Polar Ring Galaxies
In the present paper we analyze spectral observations of the polar ring galaxies: UGC 9796 and SPRC 69. The main sources of ionization in the region of the presumed intersection of the polar ring with the disk of the central galaxy are studied. The gas state was analyzed on the basis of diagrams of the ratio of optical emission line fluxes and “velocity dispersion- line flux ratio” diagrams. In both galaxies, a positive correlation between the dispersion of radial velocities and the contribution of shock excitation to gas ionization is observed. This indicates the formation of shock waves where the polar ring gas crosses the disk of the host galaxy.
