Search for Orientation Effects of The WR Stellar Wind for Close Binary Systems of the Wn+OB Type

The results of the study of the correlation between the Doppler widths (FWHM) of the He II, N IV and N V emission lines in the spectra of close binary star systems of the WN+OB type and the orbital inclination of the system are presented in order to search for the effects of the orientation of the WN stellar wind. The widths of the lines studied do not show a correlation with the orbital inclination, although for the FWHM of the N IV line a slight tendency to decrease with increasing orbital inclination is possible. No significant orientation effects were found for the WN wind.

Abstract

The results of the study of the correlation between the Doppler widths (FWHM) of the He II, N IV and N V emission lines in the spectra of close binary star systems of the WN+OB type and the orbital inclination of the system are presented in order to search for the effects of the orientation of the WN stellar wind. The widths of the lines studied do not show a correlation with the orbital inclination, although for the FWHM of the N IV line a slight tendency to decrease with increasing orbital inclination is possible. No significant orientation effects were found for the WN wind.
