A Study on the Wearing Practices and Preferences of Nepalese Traditional Clothing - Focused on Women’s Chaubandi Cholo-
This study analyzed the purchasing behavior, wearing experiences, and preferences of Nepalese women residing in Korea and Nepal regarding the traditional Nepalese clothing, Chaubandi Cholo. The aim was to provide foundational data for the production and design of Chaubandi Cholo. The findings revealed significant discomfort in the chest area and arm movements, particularly when raising arms, with variations in discomfort depending on body shape and height, necessitating pattern improvements. Regarding purchasing behavior, tailoring shops were highly preferred, with quality and size compatibility being key factors in purchase decisions. Preferences indicated a strong favor for red hues and slightly tight-fitting designs. While cotton and silk were the most used materials, there is a need for stretchable blended fabrics to enhance comfort. The implications for improving Chaubandi Cholo include: first, developing stretchable materials to maintain the traditional design while improving fit; second, revising garment patterns based on Nepalese women's body shapes; and third, standardizing sizing for Nepalese women's clothing. Future research should include ethnic comparisons and the development of a new drafting system for Chaubandi Cholo.
