The Application of Culturally Loaded Words in Film and Television Translation from the Perspective of Teleology—A Case Study of the Film “Ne Zha: Birth of the Demon Child”

Promoting the “going out” of excellent traditional Chinese culture and enhancing cultural confidence is an important policy in our country. In recent years, the dissemination of outstanding film and television cultural works overseas has become a significant way to advance this policy. These film and television works contain many culturally loaded words rich in national characteristics and cultural backgrounds. For translators, effectively translating these culturally loaded words is the foundation and focus of promoting cross-cultural communication. This article takes the movie “Ne Zha: Birth of the Demon Child” as an example, exploring the translation methods used from the perspective of teleology, starting from the culturally loaded words in the film. It corrects existing mistranslations and analyzes untranslatable phenomena caused by religious culture, linguistic culture, and social customs, proposing corresponding solutions in hopes of providing useful references for the translation of future film and television works.
