The Effects of Intensive Nutrition Education on Late Middle-Aged Adults with Type 2 Diabetes- Randomized Trial
Introduction Type 2 diabetes is a chronic metabolic condition characterized by insulin resistance and insufficient pancreatic insulin production, resulting in high blood glucose levels. Uncontrolled diabetes is strongly influenced by nutrition: Foods that are high in carbohydrates; Lack of Nutrient Balance; High Glycemic Index Foods and Obesity and Fatty liver cause rapid spikes in blood sugar. Material and Methods This randomized controlled trial assessed the effects of intensive nutrition education on late middle-aged adults (50-65 years) with Type 2 diabetes, recruited from outpatient clinics and community health centres. A total of 120 participants were randomly assigned into non intensive education group or an intensive nutrition education group. Participants in the intensive nutrition education group were arranged to receive intensive nutritional lectures about diabetes for 30 days. The non intensive education group did not received any such information and is used as control group. Data was collected after the 30 days of intervention including BMI, blood samples for HbA1c and lipid analysis. Statistical analyses included paired and independent t-tests, chi-square tests. A p-value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: After 30 days, the intensive education group showed significant improvements in HbA1c (p<0.001), BMI, and lipid profiles, while the control group had no significant changes. Conclusion: Based on the study results intense educational group showed well control in diabetes in comparison with control non intensive educational group.
