Non-Surgical Management of Severe Inflammatory Gingival Enlargement: A Case Report

This case report presents the successful non-surgical management of severe inflammatory gingival enlargement (GE) in a 38-year-old female patient. The patient presented with gingival swelling, spontaneous bleeding, and difficulty in maintaining oral hygiene. A non-surgical periodontal treatment (NSPT) approach was implemented, comprising scaling and root planing, supra/sub-gingival irrigation, oral hygiene instruction, and systemic antimicrobials. The patient was monitored for three months. Significant improvement in gingival health was observed within the first month of treatment. By the conclusion of the three-month period, there was a marked reduction in GE and bleeding. The patient reported improved oral hygiene maintenance and overall oral comfort. This case demonstrates the efficacy of NSPT in the treatment of inflammatory GE, emphasizing the importance of patient compliance and meticulous oral hygiene practices. Key Words: Irrigation, Gingival enlargement, Root planning, Scaling
