Spatial variability of agrochemical parameters of arable layer of chestnut soils in the system of forest strips of slope relief

Introduction. The article presents the results of the study of spatial distribution of agrochemical indicators of arable layer of chestnut soils along the slope in the system of forest strips. Purpose of the research. The aim of this work is to study the spatial variability and heterogeneity of physical-chemical parameters of arable soils due to the main factors of arable soil formation (climate, relief and presence of forest vegetation between open fields). Materials and methods. In the laboratory, soils were studied using methods such as: photo-colorimetry, photometry, spectro-photometry and pH-metry. A number of methods common in soil science were applied, including Machigin, Kirsanov, Tyurin and Kjeldahl methods. Statistical and analytical methods were used to process and analyze the data obtained in the laboratory. Results. The distribution of physical and chemical indicators down the slope has an ascending character. Thus, organic matter changes from 0.428% in the upper part of the slope to 2.32% at its foot. K (from 91 to 280 mg/kg), P (from 85 to 272 mg/kg) and hygroscopic moisture (from 1.72 to 5.41) change similarly. The change in pH from 6.9 to 8.0 N content decreases from 0.17 to 0.08%. Discussion. Scientists emphasize noticeable transformations caused by the impact of forest strips: there is an increase in the organic component of soil and its moisture content. The introduction of forest belt systems helps retain and store leached nutrients. Conclusion. Forest plantations play a key role in increasing the organic matter content, as they promote more intensive decomposition of litter and release of ash elements. Resume. Slope height has maximum effect on organic matter content and hygroscopic moisture content and minimum on total nitrogen content and pH.
