Development of Computerized system for recording Phonocardiogram
Phonocardiogram is the visual representation of the vibration waves caused by the pumping action of the heart. Cardiac valve disease and Heart failure were considered to be the leading causes of death. Abnormalities in the cardiac framework can be detected by analyzing the PCG signal. It provides both quantitative and qualitative information on the functioning of the cardiac framework. PCG plays a vital role in the diagnosis, treatment, and decision-making of the clinical examination and biomedical research fields. With the help of a simple acoustic stethoscope, Experienced doctors can predict anomalies present in the heart. Most low-income countries suffer from a severe shortage of electrocardiogram (ECG) and PCG devices and trained physicians and doctors. It is necessary to improve those nations’ healthcare systems, particularly in the field of heart disease diagnostics. Usually, PCG signals are recorded using contact microphones or pressure transducers. This work attempts to design and develop a simple, robust, and effective computerized system for recording PCG signals. The hardware was designed and implemented using the stethoscope, electret microphone, and NI USB 6008 for transmitting the PCG signal to the computer. The LabVIEW software was prepared for filtering, processing, and displaying the PCG signal.
