VRRP Failover Effects on OSPF and BGP Performance in VyOS Environments
Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) is a dynamic routing protocol that is essential for optimizing network efficiency and reliability. This study aims to compare VRRP with OSPF and BGP routing protocols using the open-source VyOS router, focusing on their adaptability and efficiency under failover conditions. The study evaluates Quality of Service (QoS) metrics such as throughput, delay, packet loss, jitter, downtime, and convergence time, through GNS3 simulations with TCP and UDP traffic. The results of the study show that the combination VRRPOSPF outperforms VRRP-BGP in terms of faster convergence time and shorter downtime, making it ideal for networks that require fast response during failover. On the other hand, VRRPBGP outperforms VRRP-OSPF in terms of scalability and the ability to manage inter-AS routing, making it a better choice for large-scale networks with high routing complexity requirements.
