Achieving Minimal Transmission Loss in Coplanar Waveguide with 100 GHz Bandwidth for Millimeter Wave Communication
This paper provides an overview of the Millimeter Wave (mmWave) and the frequency range used in 5G and 6G telecommunication. Besides that, this paper also presents a study work that alleviates the transmission loss for coplanar waveguide (CPW) with 100 GHz bandwidth applied in the mmWave transceiver module board. The investigation effort involves two phases, i.e., three dimensional electromagnetic (3DEM) modeling of the CPW transmission line using Keysight EMPro in phase one, followed by analyzing the insertion loss (S21), return loss (S11) and time domain reflectometry (TDR) using Keysight Advanced Design System in phase two. Analysis results show that by optimizing the placement of ground stitching vias and the shape of trace end launch for a CPW with 500 mil length, the insertion loss is held below -1.2 dB without significant resonant dip up to 100 GHz bandwidth.
