An Evaluation of SCAMPLON: A Hybrid Peer Sampling Protocol Combining SCAMP and CYCLON
SCAMPLON is a novel peer-sampling protocol that integrates the strengths of SCAMP and CYCLON to enhance peer-to-peer network performance. SCAMPLON aims to combine the adaptive nature of SCAMP with the cyclic properties of CYCLON to achieve improved connectivity and efficiency. The protocol operates through a shuffle process that balances partial view sizes while ensuring connectivity and reducing redundancy. Experimental results demonstrate that SCAMPLON effectively maintains network connectivity, manages average clustering coefficients, and optimizes the number of arcs compared to CYCLON. It converges to desirable network properties even under varying failure rates and provides a more adaptive solution compared to traditional protocols with fixed partial view sizes. Future work will focus on evaluating SCAMPLON under network churn and real-world conditions, including its implementation in WebRTC environments.
