Optimized FIR Filter Design with RNS, Array Multiplier, And Kogge Stone Adder

This research examines an innovative technique to designing Finite Impulse Response (FIR) Filters, employing the Residue Number System (RNS), Array Multiplier, and Kogge Stone Adder (KSA). The objective is to optimize the FIR Filter design by reducing the number of Logic Elements and increasing the operating Frequency, compared to conventional designs. Traditional methods involving the Carry Look Ahead Adder (CLA), Han-Carlson Adder and a combination of Dadda Multiplier and CLA have been widely used, but they present limitations in terms of resource efficiency and speed. By leveraging the RNS, the proposed design benefits from parallel processing capabilities, which significantly enhance the throughput and reduce the delay. The Array Multiplier is utilized for its simplicity and efficient hardware implementation, while the KSA is chosen for its rapid addition capabilities, contributing to overall performance improvements. The FIR Filter architecture is implemented using Verilog Hardware Description Language (HDL) and thoroughly simulated in the Intel Quartus tool, demonstrating superior performance metrics in terms of logic element usage and frequency enhancement. This design methodology offers substantial advancements in digital signal processing applications, particularly in areas requiring high-speed and resource-efficient FIR Filter implementations.
