Method of optimizing charge-discharge modes taking into account various compositions of lithium-ion power sources of mining machines

Introduction. Currently, lithium-ion batteries are being introduced into mining equipment, which requires that their chemical compositions be considered when selecting charging modes, but current methods do not provide compatibility with charging stations, especially at changing temperatures. Purpose of the research. Development of a method to optimize charge-discharge regimes for lithium-ion batteries in mining machinery, considering their compositional makeup to enhance safety, reduce costs, and extend lifespan. Materials and Methods. The tests were carried out using LCO, NMC and LFP batteries charged with different currents. The parameters were monitored using a LiitoKala charger and a DT-838 multi meter. Results. Experiments have confirmed that high current step charging with adaptive temperature ramping accelerates the process, and that LFP batteries are more stable than LCO/NMC, requiring individual profiles and data-driven optimization to adapt to composition. Discussion. Stepwise charging balances speed and safety. Custom charge profiles are essential due to differences in chemical composition (LCO, NMC, LFP). A data-driven optimization method was proposed to adapt charging based on battery type and condition. Conclusion. A system approach optimizes lithium-ion battery charge/discharge modes for mining machines by considering chemical composition, using safety, cost, productivity, and lifespan criteria to select modes, with validated composition-based methods enhancing efficiency and durability. Resume. The article presents the results of the study of lithium-ion battery compositions for traction drives in the mining industry, based on which the criteria for safety, cost, performance and service life were developed, optimizing the charge-discharge modes. The experiments confirmed the chemical-specific charge dependencies, as a result of which an algorithm for the charge-discharge modes of storage batteries of mining machines was proposed. Suggestions for practical applications and directions for future research. Results are applicable to designing energy-efficient mining systems, selecting optimal batteries, and developing smart chargers.
