Mathematical model development of multistage pumps durability used in dewatering systems in kimberlite mines

Introduction. The present study is aimed at the development of a mathematical model to predict the average time between overhaul (TBO) of multistage pumps before major repair as applied to water removal systems of kimberlitic mines. Purpose of the research: development of a mathematical model, which allows to build a qualitative forecast of the average time between overhaul of a multistage pump before major repair in relation to the water removal systems of kimberlitic mines, the practical application of which is aimed at reducing the duration of downtime of pumping equipment in repairs by improving the organization of planning of spare parts supply. Methodology of the research. For achievement of the purpose the complex approach was used, including: the visual inspections of the failed elements of slotted seals of the investigated pumps, the analysis of literature sources in the field of nature of wear of elements of the flow part of centrifugal pumps, the statistical researches on influence of various factors on durability of the investigated pumps in the programming environment “Excel”, and also the approbation of the received mathematical model by means of comparative analysis of the calculated and actual values obtained. Results of the research. It has been established that slotted seals of multistage pumps used in water removal systems of kimberlitic mines are mainly characterized by hydro-abrasive-corrosive wear. To a lesser extent, adhesive and corrosive wear is observed. As applied to water removal systems of kimberlitic mines, the average time between overhaul of multistage pumps is closely related to the average concentration of solid particles in the water at the pump inlet and the value of its flow at the time of overhaul. Based on the results of comprehensive research, a mathematical model was developed, which allows to predict with a high degree of reliability the average time between overhaul of multistage pumps of kimberlitic mines before major repair. Practical application of the developed model will allow to increase the level of spare parts planning organization of pumping equipment supply, which will favorably affect its operational efficiency.
