Electric-field-promoted assembly of asymmetric junctions for single-molecule rectifiers

Electric-field-directed self-assembly enables unidirectional monolayer junction formation on a gold substrate via terminal asymmetric Au-S and Au-C contacts, yielding stable rectifiers with defined polarity and diode I-V characteristics. This strategy defines a programmable method enabling the realization of uniform molecular-scale electronic devices through self-assembly.

Abstract

Electric-field-directed self-assembly enables unidirectional monolayer junction formation on a gold substrate via terminal asymmetric Au-S and Au-C contacts, yielding stable rectifiers with defined polarity and diode I-V characteristics. This strategy defines a programmable method enabling the realization of uniform molecular-scale electronic devices through self-assembly.
