SOLAR-POWERED DIFFUSION-ABSORPTION COOLING SYSTEM
The paper presents a simulation study of a dairy farm solar-powered milk cooling system that uses NH3-H2O for thermal absorption. The solar thermal generation system integrates a parabolic solar concentrator-collector assembly and a thermal storage battery which generate thermal energy required to operate the diffusion-absorption cooling machine. The results show that the machine can meet the milk cooling needs of a dairy farm using the simulated strategies. Also, for steady operation, certain time must be provided for charging the thermal storage battery. The book value of the system is 36 % of the total cost. The article discusses preliminary experimental results obtained during validation of the system. The findings confirm some operational strategies derived from the simulation study.
