Sweet Success: Overcoming Crisis at Uswatte Confectionery
In a vibrant town in Sri Lanka, a sweet tradition started over 60 years ago in Grandma Mabel’s kitchen, where her creativity led to delicious treats. This family legacy grew into Uswatte Confectionery Works (Pvt) Ltd, famous for popular products like Tipi-tip and Glucorasa jujubes. Founded by Kristi and Anton Perera, the company has faced challenges throughout its history. One of the toughest moments came during the COVID-19 pandemic when a key ingredient for Tipi-tip corn grit was suddenly unavailable due to import restrictions. Instead of giving up, Mr. Quintus Perera, the current CEO, took charge and quickly found a solution. He sourced corn from local farmers, transforming a crisis into an opportunity for innovation. This decisive move kept production going and built stronger connections with the local community. With a commitment to quality and family values, Mr. Quintus Perera has led Uswatte Confectionery through tough times, showing that creativity and strong leadership can make a big difference. Today, Uswatte remains a cherished name in the confectionery industry, proving that a dedicated leader can sweeten the path to success even in challenging times.
