EFFECT OF SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAMME ON PUPILS’ ATTENDANCE IN PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOLS OF KADUNA STATE

The study assessed the effect of School Feeding Programme on Pupils Attendance in Public Primary Schools of Kaduna State. In many poor households, poverty and hunger has been a barrier to school for children to attend school. A hunger-stricken child is not only unable to enroll in school at the right age but also cannot attend properly even if enrolled. Besides, such children are also likely to quit school because they have to deal with their immediate subsistence needs before they get ready for schooling. The study adapted performance evaluation model as a theoretical framework by Suchman (1963) who developed five criteria which include Efforts, Performance, Adequacy of performance, Efficiency and Process. 538 were sampled using Krejcie & Morgan table. The study adopted survey research design and obtain its data from primary and secondary sources. The instrument of the primary data collection utilized was Questionnaire. The Questionnaires were administered to 538 respondents. Respondents were selected using a Cluster and simple random sampling techniques. Simple Linear Regression analysis was used in testing the hypotheses. Both descriptive and inferential statistical tools were used. Findings of the study showed that the pupil’s attendance rate was very poor in some schools. The study recommended that the government should implement targeted interventions by providing learning materials to accommodate the increasing attendance and provide conducive environment.
