New criteria for assessing the specific activity of infusion solutions: reduced stroke volume of blood and infusion efficiency indicator

Preclinical evaluation of the specific activity of infusion solutions is carried out on large laboratory animals, the use of which in screening studies is difficult due to large material and time costs. At present, a group of authors (Shperling I.A. et al.) has developed a model of acute blood loss in rats, in which the criteria for the specific activity of infusion solutions are considered to be the calculated indicators: the adjusted stroke volume of blood (ASVB) and the infusion efficiency index (IEI). These indicators are considered as indirect analogues of the stroke volume of the heart, the main indicator of cardiac function. The dynamics of these indicators allows for a comprehensive assessment of the effectiveness of hemodynamic maintenance mechanisms during acute blood loss and its replenishment in screening studies on small laboratory animals. In this regard, a study was conducted to determine the possibility of using the reduced stroke volume of blood and the infusion efficiency indicator as criteria for assessing the specific activity of infusion solutions on the model of acute blood loss in large laboratory animals. The maintenance of animals and all manipulations with them were approved by the local ethics committee.
