Efficacy of Cryovibrator for Painless Phlebotomy in Adults: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Needle-related procedures, such as venipuncture, not only cause psychological stress but can also contribute to the development of needle phobia, potentially leading to avoidance of medical interventions and poor treatment adherence. 6Despite the significant burden of pain and anxiety associated with phlebotomy, limited research has been conducted to assess pain perception in IntroductIonPhlebotomy, a commonly performed medical procedure, involves venipuncture for blood collection or intravenous medication administration.Despite its routine use in healthcare settings for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, phlebotomy can cause significant distress due to pain and anxiety associated with the procedure. 1eedle phobia is a prevalent concern, with a study by Alsbrooks et al. reporting that 63.2% of 2,098 individuals experienced fear of venous interventions. 2 The primary contributors to this fear included general anxiety (96.1%) and anticipated pain (95.5%) during the procedure.Anxiety, characterized by tense feelings, anxious thoughts, and physiological changes such as increased heart rate, can significantly impact an individual's behavior and decision-making. 3Moreover, needle phobia is not limited to phlebotomy but also extends to other medical interventions such as blood donation and injections required for chronic conditions such as diabetes mellitus. 4ain perception is highly subjective, influenced by psychological factors, emotional state, past experiences, and cultural background.Given this variability, alternative nonpharmacological interventions have been explored to minimize discomfort during medical procedures. These include distraction techniques, topical anesthetics, tissue vibration to disrupt pain signal transmission, and thermal applications (heat or cold) before injection.
