Conductive Work Environment and its Influence on Intention to Stay and Caring Behaviors among Staff Nurses

Background: Lately, conductive work environment becomes an important factor that influencing on intention to stay and caring behaviors among staff nurses. Aim: The study aimed at investigating conductive work environment and its influence on intention to stay and caring behaviors among staff nurses. Research design: The design that engaged in directing that study was a correlational descriptive cross-sectional. Setting: It was performed throughout all Critical Care Units at four hospitals that affiliated to Ain Shams University: Cardio-Vascular Hospital, Ain Shams University Hospital, Eldemerdash Hospital, and Pediatric Hospital, Cairo, Egypt. Subjects: The study’s subjects comprised 148 out of 240 staff nurses who working at the above-mentioned setting, who consented to partake in this study throughout the data gathering phase. Data collection tools: Conductive Work Environment Questionnaire, Intention to Stay Questionnaire and Caring Behaviors Inventory, were hired to gather the study’s data. Results: Displayed that, there were less than two thirds 61% of the studied staff nurses had a high perception level of total conductive work environment, less than half 46% of them had a high level of total intention to stay and more than one half 56.4% of them had a high level of total caring behaviors. Conclusion: There was a statistically significant positive correlation between total staff nurses’ perception of conductive work environment and their total intention to stay. While, there was a statistically significant negative correlation between the total staff nurses perception of the conductive work environment and their total caring behaviors. Recommendations: Establish a positive conductive work environment educational training program, construct forceful strategies, support systems to maximize intention to stay and caring behaviors among staff nurses through their workplace. Explore the effect size of moderators’ variables on conductive work behaviors and caring behavior.
