Phytochemical investigations on moringa oleifera

The secondary metabolites in the leaves of Moringa oleifera were screened and their antibacterial and antioxidant properties were studied. For this purpose the phytochemical testing was done on LCMS and ultraviolet-visible (Uv-Vis) spectroscopy, antibacterial activity was measured with well diffusion method while antioxidant activity was measured by DPPH and FRAPS Assay. Phytochemical testing revealed the presence of alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, steroids, saponins, coumarins, quionones and resin. Methanolic extract showed higher antimicrobial activity. against S. aureus, B. subtilis E. coli and S. typhi than amikacin. Methanolic extract showed higher antioxidant activity in comparison to ascorbic acid.
