Reducing Audio Signal Distortions in the Program Formation Channel
It is believed that distortions during the analog-todigital conversion stage can be neglected due to their insignificance. However, with the development of sound reproduction systems and increasing listener demands for signal quality, it has become clear that this is not always the case. Signal distortions, according to accepted measurement methods, are evaluated only at the nominal level, while they may not meet standards across the entire range of transmitted signal levels. It is known that when perceiving quiet signals, the auditory analyzer lacks the frequency masking effect that reduces the visibility of distortions when perceiving medium and high levels. A study was conducted on the magnitude of distortions depending on the signal level for studio formats, and methods were proposed to maintain signal quality while reducing its volume.
