Demo xApp: QoS-Based Radio Resource Optimization on Carrier-Grade O-RAN Testbed
This paper demonstrates a QoS-based radio resource optimization (QoS-BRO) xApp developed and deployed on a cloud-based, Open-RAN Alliance (O-RAN) specific testbed. The testbed is designed with carrier-grade RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) platforms integrated with RAN node. Existing xApps in the recent O-RAN literature are often tested and validated with opensource RIC and RAN simulation components that lack realistic testing scenarios. This demo attempts to narrow the gap between the lab and real RAN scenarios by using Broadcom's productiongrade RIC platform on top of the industry-leading VIAVI RSG. Diverse training/test datasets and RAN scenarios are synthesized to rigorously test the performance of the novel QoS-BRO xApp in the O-RAN context. The result shows that our xApp improves the QoS score by 2.75% with an additional enhancement of downlink throughput by 15.7% in a dense urban RAN scenario.
