Investigation of Modified Designs of Helix Slowwave Structures for Millimetre and Submillimetre Ranges

It is generally recognised that communication is one of the most important areas of technology. Moreover, the study and improvement of amplification devices operating in little-studied frequency ranges is an essential part of the modern communication development. This work is aimed at investigating the electrodynamic properties of modified designs of helix slowwave systems, used in particular as a component of amplification devices, in the millimetre and submillimetre (terahertz) ranges. Described systems are abundantly used in everyday telecommunications. The study, calculation of the characteristics and design of mathematical models of the devices are required for further development of existing technologies. The main objective of the work is to obtain the parameters of the studied systems and to create their three-dimensional models. To achieve the goal, it is necessary to make an analysis and review of existing modified designs of helix slow-wave systems of the investigated ranges, to carry out the simulation of interaction of devices with electromagnetic waves in specialised software and to calculate electrodynamic characteristics using MATLAB programming environment. To sum up, the results of this study will include efficiency improvement, loss reduction and bandwidth expansion dependencies on changes of the system's geometrical parameters and materials, which will contribute to the development of highfrequency new generation vacuum electronic devices.
