Application of the Ray Tracing Method for Modeling Wireless Networks in Urban Environments

This paper is devoted to the calculation of communication channels using the ray tracing method. The purpose is to consider the possibility of using this method to model wireless networks in urban environments. To solve this problem, methods of digital terrain modeling, methods for calculating wireless network coverage based on ray tracing, and methods of communication network theory were used. The paper describes the principle of calculating communication channels between network nodes using the ray tracing method. The authors consider the principles of building a model of a small wireless network based on the AODV (Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector) algorithm. The work also demonstrates the operation of this model in urban conditions. The proposed modeling method can be used to study and develop various types of wireless networks, as well as to study the propagation of radio waves in difficult urban environments.
