Analysis of Service Link for Uplink Channel with Direct Access from Mobile Phone to Satellite with Terrestrial Cellular Communication Technology LTE

This paper investigates the feasibility of implementing uplink communication from standard mobile devices to satellites using non-terrestrial network architecture based on terrestrial LTE technology. It is focuses on analyzing the signal reception on board a satellite from unmodified smartphones operating within LTE bands. A direct-conversion receiver architecture is proposed and evaluated using modern electronic components with an emphasis on sensitivity and compatibility with existing LTE uplink schemes. The theoretical throughput is calculated under both minimal and optimal transmission parameters. The findings confirm that nonterrestrial network using LTE uplink is technically feasible and can support basic mobile services without specialized user terminals.
