An umpolung of transient arylidene malonates via photoactivated one-electron reduction: the application to the catalyst-free multicomponent synthesis of imidazolinone malonic acids

An approach to radical multicomponent reactions of Meldrum's acid via photoexcitation of transient arylidene malonates is proposed. Its viability is shown by visible light-driven synthesis of novel imidazolinone malonic acids.
