Predictive Model for Post-operative Pain Management in Saudi Arabian Patients Undergoing Major Abdominal Surgery

Abstract Background: Post-operative pain management remains a significant challenge in surgical care, with implications for patient recovery, hospital stay duration and overall healthcare costs. Methodology: This study proposes a novel predictive model for optimizing post-operative pain management specifically for Saudi Arabian patients undergoing major abdominal surgery. Using data from 450 patients across three major hospitals in Riyadh, A machine learning-based model incorporating demographic, clinical, genetic and psychosocial factors was developed. Results: The machine learning-based model demonstrated 83.7% accuracy in predicting patients likely to experience severe post-operative pain, allowing for preemptive pain management protocol adjustments. Conclusion: This approach represents a significant improvement over the conventional standardised pain management protocols and has potential applications for personalizing post-operative care in Saudi Arabian healthcare settings.
