Analysis of the Maximum Bending Moment in a Beam by Using the Smeared Crack Method
The change in the maximum bending moment in a reinforced concrete beam developing cracks was analyzed depending on concrete class, type of steel and reinforcement ratio. Crack development was performed using the smeared crack method with the ANSYS software product. The purpose of the study is to follow the overall behavior of a beam subjected to bending with the methods of fracture mechanics when multiple parameters are changed. A particular focus is placed on the maximum bending moment and relative rotation in the mid-section of the beam. This research is part of a project aimed at determining the maximum bending moment in a beam subjected to bending with the methods of fracture mechanics, defining a simplified formula specifying the one obtained by the limit State Analysis.
