CARBON DIOXIDE AND CARBON MONOXIDE EMISSION AT SELECTED TRAFFIC JUNCTIONS IN THE BENGALURU URBAN, KARNATAKA

The study addresses the levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) and carbon monoxide emission at eight selected traffic junctions of Bengaluru. The concentration of Carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide were recorded using portable Co and CO2 meter - AZ-7755 every 5 minutes for two hours at morning (8:00AM – 10:00AM) evening (5:00PM-7:00PM) and Night (10:00PM-12:00AM). The findings revealed that the significant range of results variation of carbon dioxide (CO2) and carbon monoxide (CO) levels at two key locations of Silk Board Junction and Jalahalli Cross, at Silk Board Junction, it could be influenced by factors such as heavy traffic, road congestion, which contribute to higher emissions whereas, Jalahalli Cross may exhibit different concentration levels could be due to industrial activities in addition to traffic patterns. The study suggests for reduction of vehicles and relocation of industrial pockets to outskirts of city and traffic management.
