A 75-year-old Woman with Multiple Cavitating Lung Nodules

A BSTRACT Cavitating lung nodules of infectious origin can result from a variety of etiologies, including tuberculosis, fungal infections, echinococcosis, and septic emboli. Herein, we present a clinical image of 75-year-old woman presented with multiple cavitating lung nodules and symptoms of chronic cough and dyspnea. Imaging and bronchoalveolar lavage revealed pulmonary nocardiosis in a background of bronchiectasis. Diagnosis was established via modified acid-fast staining, despite negative cultures. Early recognition is key to avoid misdiagnosis and ensure prompt treatment.
