Evaluation of the osteogenic effect of Naringin-enhanced bmscs/cpc composite for alveolar ridge preservation and tooth extraction wound healing in beagle dogs

This study aimed to evaluate the osteoinductive potential of a composite material consisting of Naringin, bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs), and calcium phosphate cement (CPC) for alveolar ridge preservation and tooth extraction wound healing in Beagle dogs. Six Beagle dogs underwent bilateral extraction of the mandibular first through fourth premolars. The extraction sites were treated with one of the following: Naringin/BMSCs + CPC, BMSCs + CPC, blank control, and Bio-Oss. Samples were collected at 4, 8, and 12 weeks, with two dogs per time point. Evaluations included gross examination, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT), and histological analysis. CBCT revealed minimal alveolar ridge changes in the Naringin/BMSCs + CPC and Bio-Oss groups, while significant resorption was observed in the control group. Micro-CT showed superior bone volume fraction, trabecular number, and bone mineral density in the experimental groups compared to the control group. Histology confirmed higher new bone formation in the Naringin/BMSCs + CPC and Bio-Oss groups. The Naringin/BMSCs/CPC composite showed significant osteogenic potential, promoting extraction site healing and enhancing alveolar ridge regeneration. This composite may serve as a viable option for clinical alveolar ridge preservation. The Naringin/BMSCs/CPC composite may provide a promising approach for preserving alveolar ridges and enhancing bone regeneration in clinical dental practices, potentially improving outcomes for patients undergoing tooth extractions.
