The Role of Women in the Fate of the Artist in Russian and English Prose the Second Half of the Twentieth Century Summary In this article is made the attempt to reveal the role of woman and significance of family in life of artist, who is ridden by creativity. The study is based on material of literary works of Russian and English literature of II part of XX century. The heroes – artists of J.Cary, Y.Bondarev, J.Wain, J.Fowles and J.Harris aspire to family happiness insistently, but the marriage becomes the block for creative person. Family obligations and duties limit the freedom of artist. The artist, ridden by creativity is searching the freedom of self-expression ecstatically. He thirsts the calmness and quietness and acquire harmony only in creative process. Key words: obsession with creativity, love, marriage, family, women`s happiness
