Planning and organising perimeter defence as part of the defence operations of a general military sub-unit

<ns3:p>Ensuring state security during an armed conflict in a military area is based on the implementation of defensive, offensive, indirect and stabilisation measures. Maintaining the independence of the state and the integrity of the national border requires operating in a multi-domain environment. Within the land domain, the main tasks focus on defensive operations, which include delay and defence. Perimeter defence as a form of defensive action is becoming increasingly common on the modern battlefield. It is used in all tactical operations and, in particular, for tasks over extended distances between units, when defending key terrain and acting as guard or reserve. Perimeter defence is also effective in specific combat environments, such as urbanised or mountainous terrain. The lack of specific operating procedures adequate to the realities of the contemporary battlefield concerning this issue requires filling this information gap. This paper presents basic information on defence operations and the process of planning and organising perimeter defence at the lowest levels of command. The primary objectives of the paper are to describe the existing procedures for planning and organising perimeter defence and to develop an effective solution in the form of a platoon operating procedure for perimeter defence in the Polish Land Forces. The paper uses theoretical methods such as analysis, synthesis, comparison and inference. A synthesis of the conclusions from the research conducted leads to the claim that perimeter defence, as a common form of defensive action on the modern battlefield, requires the development of effective solutions for its rapid planning and organisation. The result of the research is the proposal of a solution for the effective execution of perimeter defence at the platoon level.</ns3:p>
